That one day when it happened, I remember as if it where only so recently. I saw a pair of twins, whom seemed to have worked at a circus or so, being in uniform and handing out flyers. Every person I saw walk by ignored them, so I though I’d pay a visit. The little girl took a flying from the opposite hand, her brother giving the one quote that rang in my ears for the rest of my mortal life; “Come by and see him.” Me being who I was, I asked to take two flyers, giving one to my friend- a big mistake.

As we went down to the circus around eight PM- thirty minutes before Showtime, so we weren’t late, it was so quiet, it was unbelievable. We had more time to talk, at least, with no topic on dance classes- me and her where normally partners for certain songs, and normally the only time we saw each other was during school or in dance class- the only times she’s ever invited me over, vice versa, it was for practice. After we got there, the crowd seemed low- and I just plain had a bad feeling. I asked her, of course, if she’d rather turn back too, but she refused to miss the show.

The people I saw there where amazing- a diva with such a set of legs, the twins from earlier.. Why means why, they weren’t only together in costume. The person I had felt sorry for the most had been that blue man, he seemed to have lost his mind. But the last thing I saw was the face of a very tall man.. I think he was the ring master. He had bent down so far, and took me and my friend away. The last night I’d spent being a normal human being was the last one I remembered.

After so long, me and her, those dance lesson payed off, and all we did once a week for five years after was dance around outside the tent prior to the performance. It occurred to me during one of our first few performances that we where only coming closer each minute we danced like that, and it seems I fell for her in secret.. I never told her yet.

But after the five years, it feels I’ve grown terrified of meeting new people, too shy to speak to anybody I haven’t already met without their approach, and now I just want to quit- but what the ring master said my first night of getting used to my height, ‘If you leave us, you will regret it’. So here I am, and every Sunday night, I return to the circus and dance with her- but hopefully, my friend’s mind will be made up on leaving some day, and we’ll leave together- nothing bad can happen when two are with each other. Until then, I’m waiting.
